About me

Painters paint their pictures on canvas
but musicians paint their pictures on

Leopold Stokowski

In 1994 I completed my studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam where I obtained my teacher's and soloist's diploma. In those days the viola coloured my musical palette with its warm and somewhat melancholic sound.

Two years later I became a mother for the first time, giving birth to a son, followed later by two daughters.

I continued to work as a freelance musician, playing regularly in various orchestras and ensembles in the Netherlands and abroad. My heart lay in music that included singing. I wanted to 'sing' myself; on my violin and my viola! I embraced all styles of music; musicals, operas, cantatas and oratorios but performing with a pop group too was something I thoroughly enjoyed.

For a number of years I had my own music practice. I taught the viola at De Muzen music school in Veenendaal for ten years, and the violin and viola at Muziekcentrum Zuidoost in Amsterdam for four years. At the time I assisted in the pilot of the 'Leerorkest', an orchestra for children which has since become very successful. Sharing my passion for music with children is still one of my missions.

When my own children were young I wanted to be able to work at times that suited me and my family. For this reason I started teaching music in primary school, working with children aged 11-12 for an interactive concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. I set up my own after-school music activity and gave courses in music for babies and toddlers. I was also a registered childminder for three years.

I feel incredibly privileged to work with young children. Keeping their pure essence, openness and wonder and guiding them into the world is something close to my heart. In 2011 I pursued this passion further by training as a teacher in baby massage at Centrum Sterrenkind in The Hague. Here I learnt to massage a baby according to the bio-release method. In February 2014 I completed the teacher training programme in Shantala baby massage at the Massage Academy in Apeldoorn.

Through my professional practice for Baby and Music I would like parents and their children to experience the value of music and touch.
